2 Kings 4:8-10
Today in the Bible
Portion of scripture
And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where [was] a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And [so] it was, [that] as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread. And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this [is] an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually. Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither. - 2 Kings 4:8-10 KJV
Thoughts
Was this great woman’s greatness old age, loudness, intense personality, or importance?
v14 her husband is old, perhaps her greatness was that of age.
What clued the woman in on Elisha being a holy man? Was he following the ways of the Lord while eating perhaps? Giving thanks to the Lord for food is also a testimony to others.
This is a sad story but the confidence the woman had that something could still be done is evident. Her son lay dead, and she traveled herself to fetch hope. Inspiring story, the love of a mother, the faith she had.
This woman reminds me of my own mother, and her love for her children. I am convinced that my mother would cross oceans and desserts chasing hope to save her children. I have been truly blessed with a wonderful mother!
